Multi-lingual content management
Client is an SME based in Oxfordshire, operating across Europe that is frustrated at the lack of control they have over their own website. The Challenge
- Old Content Management System (CMS) only allowed limited changes by our client.
- Their European site is heavily tied into US operations.
- Other changes were either impossible or billable.
- Changes via the incumbent web developers took a long time.
- Unsupported languages were in the pipeline.
- Client requires Multi-country, not multi-lingual capability. The legal framework in which they operate requires, for example, Austria to have different content than Germany even though they speak the same language. Many systems are purely multi-lingual, they do not allow you to target different content geographically.
- Ultimately our client decided the system they had with their current web developers was unworkable & did not fit with their objectives.
The Solution
- Tailor a Content Management System provide sufficient in-house control for our client, without compromising server security.
- Add the supported languages.
- Work with translators to provide unsupported languages.
- Add countries.
- Allow different content/menu items per country to reflect local laws.
The team are now happily updating the site, which means that they can respond quickly to changes & costs are certain. As web developers we provide ongoing support as and when it is needed but "business as usual" is handled by the internal web development team.
